Police identified the victim as Efren Arnold Pilas, 63, married and a resident of Barangay Tugas, Tanjay. He succumbed to gunshot wounds in his back, while being treated at the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete City.
Investigation showed that Pilas was on his way to Sitio Nangka in Barangay Luka, Tanjay, on board his motorcycle, when the four men appeared and shot him in the back for no apparent reason, the police said.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man was reportedly fatally stabbed by his drinking buddy in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, recently.
The police identified the victim as Jody Bordago, of Sitio Bulakan in San Jose, Sta. Catalina, who died on the spot.
The suspect, identified as Diorly Pitulan, 42, married, and a resident of the same place, evaded arrest, the police said.
Investigation showed that Bordago and Pitulan were having drinks when a heated argument ensued between them, resulting in the stabbing incident. A manhunt in ongoing against the suspect, the police said.
Catalino Mejio, 21, single, and a resident of Brgy. Caranoche, also of Sta. Catalina, was arrested while allegedly in the act of receiving bets for the numbers game “Swertes” recently.
Mejio was brought to the Tayasan Police Station and will be charged for illegal gambling, police reports said. (www.visayandailystar.com)
