In Napolcom Memorandum Circular 2012-001, a copy of which was secured by the DAILY STAR, the increase that will take effect in the opening of classes next month, will mean that scholars in the elementary will receive P12,000 annually from the P8,000 grant, while high school scholars will get P16,000, or an increase of P5,000. Vocational scholars will get P12,000, while college scholars will enjoy a maximum of P22,000 per semester, or an increase of P8,000.
Napolcom vice-chairperson Eduardo Escueta said the additional benefit will enable grantees to cope up with the inflationary costs of tuition and miscellaneous school expenses.
Napolcom records show that the financial benefit for elementary scholars increased to 50 percent, and 45 percent for the high school scholars, annually. Vocational scholars are granted a 33 percent raise, and 57 percent per semester for the college scholars.
Escueta said the amount will be paid directly to the school where the scholar is enrolled, or reimbursed to the scholar by Napolcom upon presentation of his or her approved enrollment or registration form, and the official receipt of payment from the school. (www.visayandailystar.com)
